ABOUT MICHAEL
Journalist and broadcaster Michael Rose has worked in senior roles for major media organizations around the world, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, MacLean's Magazine, United Press Canada, Radio France International, Australia's Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, and the Reuters news agency in London. From 2003-2006 he was Chief of Communications and Publications for Interpol at the agency's headquarters in Lyon, France. In addition to his fiction writing, Rose works as a communications consultant and media trainer based in Sydney, Australia.
Rose's work and personal travel have taken him throughout Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia, and landed him in plenty of hot spots - Nicaragua, Guatemala and Haiti; Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Zambia and Zimbabwe; Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor.
A native of Montreal, Rose attended Concordia University and earned a Bachelor's degree in English literature and psychology. He then studied journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa, and holds a Master's degree in communication studies from the University of Wollongong in Australia.
Rose has written extensively in a variety of media genres - news reporting, political commentary and analysis, as well as many feature and travel articles. He's taught journalism at the University of Western Sydney and the University of Sydney in Australia and delivered guest lectures at Montreal's Concordia University and the University of Hanoi. He has also trained working journalists in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, East Timor, Thailand, among other places.
Michael draws upon that wealth of experience as a journalist, foreign correspondent and traveler for his Frank Delaney thriller series. The Mazovia Legacy won critical acclaim immediately after publication and was short-listed for the prestigious Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel. The Tsunami File was shortlisted in the Arthur Ellis Awards for Best Crime Novel of 2009.
Rose has been a longtime supporter of The Writers Union of Canada, Australian Society of Authors and International Thriller Writers.
JOURNALISM TRAINING AND CONSULTING
Journalism has given me a great deal over the years, a rich variety of experience that launched my career as a writer. I feel that when I can give something back to the profession and to those who work as journalists in dangerous or difficult circumstances, then it is my duty, and my privilege, to do so.
Michael Rose has developed a strong reputation as a trainer of reporters, particularly in the developing world.
Those training workshops were organized for various non-government organizations like the Reuters Foundation, Conciliation Resources and Internews.
Rose has also carried out media training and communications consultancy work for senior officials in organizations like the New South Wales Refugee Review Tribunal, the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission, HSBC, Canon Asia-Pacific and Novartis.
He is developing a select list of private clients in the corporate sector for communications advisory services, strategic planning, crisis management and speechwriting.
